In accordance with the School Act, the Abbotsford Board of Education must approve a balanced budget by June 30th each year. The Abbotsford School District is currently preparing its budget for the 2023-24 school year and is inviting employees, families and community members to share their voice in the consultation process. 

At the March 7th public board meeting, the Abbotsford Board of Education passed a motion to approve and formalize the school calendar for 2023-2024. The Abbotsford Board of Education is required to create a calendar that meets the legislated requirements of the School Act, and the Abbotsford Teachers Union (ATU) Collective Agreement.  

Grade 5 Indigenous students across the district came together for drum making workshops as a way of connecting with other students from their family of schools, as they prepare for their transition to middle school next year.

Friday, March 3 we honored 80 McMillan students for their demonstration of our Husky virtues. Our Husky virtue of the month was cooperation, and we have seen so much of that around the school and on the playground. Students have really been taking the time to notice and remark when they see someone cooperating.

At our January Husky Assembly we honored students who demonstrated one of the Husky virtues consistently this past month. Our virtues are:

Respect: Showing others they are important by what you say and do.

Perseverance: Never giving up, even when things get hard.

Empathy: Understanding the thoughts, feelings and emotions of others.

Creativity: Using your imagination to make something new and useful, and thinking outside the box to get things done!

Honesty: Being truthful to yourself and to others.

Courage: Never letting Fear stop you.

This past December, the Indigenous Education Advisory Committee reviewed applications submitted by several grade 12 Indigenous students from secondary schools throughout the Abbotsford School District.

Today was the very exciting annual Teachers vs. Grade 5 students Skittleball game! After a fun and busy season of inter school games, our grade 5 students did their best against our staff. Alas, this year, the win went to the teachers.  Our grade 5 students can hold their heads high, having represented McMillan admirably throughout the season. They gave our staff team a real run for their money today, but we were simply just too tall for them!
