Welcome Back!

September 5, 2024

Welcome to a new school year! A big thank you to the entire McMillan community for the role you played in helping this past week run a smoothly as possibly! Staff have so enjoyed meeting all their new students for the year, and we all appreciate your patience as we confirm our numbers and work to create the most balanced classes we can.

As you know, when creating class lists, teachers consider students' personalities, learning needs, social strengths and weaknesses and many other things. Parent requests are always a hot topic, as no one wants to start the year off with an angry or upset family in their grouping and we really do want to honor all requests. However, sometimes the number of, and complexity of the requests threatens to become the driving force around the decision making. It's tricky when all the girls want to be with the same friend, for example! When this happens, we as staff take a step back and try to make the best educationally sound choice for everyone. We can not always accommodate every request made. We ask only that you as parents understand that we did consider all requests, and in the end, circumstances you may not have been aware of (for example, split classes, changes in teaching partners or other students in the class), had to drive the decision making.

We are looking forward to an amazing year of learning for everyone. If you have any concerns about your child's placement, I am more then happy to talk with you about things.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs. Jordan
