Our First Day Back is fast approaching! Here's what you need to know to make the first day smooth and successful;

Grades 1 -5

• Tuesday, Sept. 5 is the first day back, and is a half day. Students will be in attendance from 8:30 - 11:00.  Please send a snack for this day. Wed., Sept. 6 is a full day, and students will need both snack and lunch. Students should also bring some basic school supplies for these two days. A pencil, some colouring supplies, scissors, and perhaps a leftover journal from last year will suffice. 
• Tuesday and Wednesday, students will attend in their last year's classroom.  Please have your child line up just as they did in June!
• New to McMillan students please look for a staff member on the playground or at the front of the building when you arrive on Tuesday. They will direct you to the correct door. Please note, this will be your class for the first two days of school only.
• On Wednesday, when students are dismissed, they will have a note from their new teacher for the year, informing you of which door students should line up at on Thursday morning. 

Parents and students should be aware that this plan is dependent on enrollment not changing too much. In the event that there is a significant difference between students we are expecting and students who show up, we may need to delay getting students to their new classroom by a day or more. This is to ensure that class lists, once made, do not need to be changed, which can be very upsetting for students. We will let you know Wednesday if there is any change to this plan.

Kindergarten

• Tuesday, Sept. 5 all new K students attend with a parent from 9:45 - 10:30
• Wed., Sept 6 - Fri. Sept. 8 is individual meetings with teachers. You will have received your meeting time in early July. Please call the office in the last week of August if you do not have a meeting time.
• Mon., Sept. 11 - Tues., Sept. 19 is gradual entry. You can see that schedule here.
• Wed., Sept. 20, all Kindergarten students attend full days

Please note that new school supplies should not be sent until Thursday, Sept. 7.

Adjusted Bell Times for 2023 -24

Every year we need to adjust the bell times slightly, to meet the ministry mandated minutes/day. This school year the morning will begin with a warning bell at 8:25. Classes begin at 8:30. School will be dismissed at 2:21.

Staff are on duty on the playground from 8:15 until 8:30 in the mornings, and from 2:21 - 2:40 after school. 

Picking up and Dropping off 

As always, pick up and drop off is from the upper parking lot loop. We encourage all students to walk themselves to their classroom line up as soon as they feel ready to do so. The more families who can comfortably "drop and go", the smoother and quicker the car line is. If you wish to wait with your child at their door, please consider walking to school, or come early enough to find parking on one of the neighboring streets. When doing so, all parking signs need to be obeyed, and private driveways respected (and not blocked). The church across the street is also available for parking. You may not park in the fire lane of the drop off loop. The front door parking lot is open to daycare vans and school buses only. The front door of McMillan School is not for pick up and drop off unless students are late (after the 8:30 bell), or being picked up early. Students arriving through the front door after 8:30 will be marked late.
