September Updates

September 9, 2022

Hello McMillan Families,

Students are now settling into their new classrooms and there is lots of energy and plenty of smiles throughout the building. We are learning that change can be tricky, but fun, and that good things can happen when we take a chance and do something we might not have thought of before. We are also having so much fun reconnecting with old friends, as well as making new ones. Everyone has grown so much over the summer, and we are looking forward to a very successful year!

September is always a busy month, and things happen quickly. Be sure to check our calendar and note the many upcoming dates. Our website replaced regular newsletters last year, so please make it a habit to visit us often, and you won't miss a thing. I will try to send monthly reminders and links to the most important news, but don't be afraid to explore the site on your own.

A few other reminders for the month:

All sudents in grades 2 -5 will receive a student planner. Please use school cash online to pay $6 for your child's planner.

Meet the Teacher Night will be September 20, from 5:30 - 6:30. This is a casual drop in event. No appointments necessary.

If your child is going to be absent, or late for any reason, please use the Safe Arrival system to let us know.

After last year's very sucessful paid School Lunch pilot program, McMillan is happy to offer this service again. It will begin on September 26, and you will be receiving an email about setting up your accounts soon. Our PAC fundraising hot lunches will also be offered once a month, so you might want to block those dates off so you don't accidently order two lunches. Our first PAC hot lunch is scheduled for Oct. 7 - Booster Juice Wrap and Smoothies. Ordering for that will be done through MunchaLunch

Finally, Just a reminder that parents are very welcome to be in the school this year, and we look forward to welcoming volunteers into our classrooms, for field trips, and to help with and participate in different events. It is important however, that any visitors always check in at the office. This includes spending time on our playground.  During the school day we ask that all adults refrain from visiting with their child at outside times. Abbotsford school district playgrounds are a part of a closed campus during the school day. It is difficult for us to provide proper security when unknown adults are in the school yard, and we will ask you to report to the office first, if you need to be there.

Our first PAC meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7:00pm in the school library. Plan to be there if you are willing to help with different PAC initiatives, or are simply interested in meeting other parents and hearing about what is going on in the great school.

McMillan staff so appreciate all the support we receive from our parent community. Thank you! We are all hoping for a most fabulous 2022 -23 school year!
