October Update

October 13, 2021

Wow! Here we are in the middle of October! I hope everyone had a restful and happy Thanksgiving long weekend. At the school, we have made a busy start to the year, and have already put a whole treasure chest of experiences and new memories behind us. We have settled into classes and routines, while at the same time breaking routine to practice emergency drills, fundraise for cancer research, acknowledge our first ever National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, learn about CP and show support for children who are living with Cerebral Palsy, as well practice for, and cheer on the runners of, our cross country meet. We have also just completed a winter wear drive to benefit needy Abbotsford School District students.  Thank you for your generosity! Additionally, teachers have worked together this past pro-d to learn about the history of Indigenous communities in our local area, and ways we can bring this learning to our classrooms. See the pictures below for some of the highlights from these events. It's been an amazing few weeks, and we still have Parent Teacher Interviews, another Pro-D day of learning for teachers, and Halloween to look forward to this month.

Thank you so much for all your support! Remember, you can get involved with school events by joining our PAC for their monthly meetings, or by reaching out to your child's teacher about volunteer opportunities in the classroom.

A principal's message wouldn't be complete without a reminder to please avoid parking in the fire lane. We are building confidence and independence as we begin to allow our children to walk themselves to their classroom entry, and a "drop and go" policy also allows traffic to flow smoothly and safely. We have staff on duty outside between 8:15 and 8:30, so know that students will be safe. If you arrive in the upper parking lot late, after the bell, and do not see someone there, please proceed to the front door driveway, and drop your child there, to enter by way of the front door. Your cooperation with this is appreciated!

Have a great rest of the month.
